In a verdant ravine
Fighting an uphill battle
Against ascendant vines
Making rooted mats
Coiling up conifers
Invading native rivers
Humbling human efforts
To control consequences
Of seeds we’ve spread.
A day’s deliberate labor
Can’t stem a year’s gradual growth
So we speculate on superior strategies
To serve we and the weeds both.
