This is a poem about the thematic subtext of zombies I thought up while my wife was watching The Last of Us. I've been terrified of zombies more than just about any other monster since I was a kid. I wouldn't be the first to speculate that this uniquely 20th century terror of shambling mindless hordes in many ways reflects the fears of rampant consumerism, as they've been associated with TV and shopping malls since George Romero's genre-defining films Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead in the '60s and '70s.
